A Winter Tale. My Epic Journey!
From devastation and dispare. A new hope is reborn as my beloved river transforms from raging waters to a place where dreams are made.
The Autumn tides has finally turned as winter take a hold of the mighty Ebro River. Over the course of the past months I sat silently in my bivvy and watched as my passion slowly faded. Longing desperately for the days of certainty. I felt trapped in a loop of wind and rain, muddy waters raging high and full of debris. When you put your sence of self worth into a job the requires you to catch continually. You hold in your hands the future of your small business with people depending on you to produce. No matter what. The year behind me plagued with harsh reality that mother nature is the boss and you are just a pawn in her constant game of chess. The weeks turned to months and the situation ever changing brought no relief. I thought long and hard of my future here and how long I could continue to make a living on this ever changing river. Just as I felt at my lowest the seasons changed. And for all the suffering that it has caused winter would finally bring relief. As I watched the water day after day with dwindling and desperate hope, the carp had finally come. Slowly at first, small in size but they had indeed come. As the riverbeagan to improve so did my mental state. The runs came the sizes grew and before long I was back. The River was back and I finally felt I was home again and I was fishing. The Ebro had showed it's face to me again. And it's was glorious. I sit here now. As if the past year had all been a bad dream. The reflections of my rods shimmering in the light of the low set sun as it glows across the mountains reminds me that carp fishing on the Ebro is lime life. There will be many high and low points but is always worth the ride. Tomorrow is another day. You can never give up.
